Watercolor and drawing-media workshop

Place: Jack Richeson Art School and Gallery, Kimberly, Wisconsin

Dates: Monday, September 18 through Wednesday, September 20, 2017

We will learn some fun techniques to achieve realism in your watercolors. We will experiment with pencil, pastel, color pencil, or other mediums that might help you get the imagery you are looking for.

Beginners are welcome, as well as those who want to enrich their work with new techniques.

I will demonstrate what I've learned over the years in capturing landscape, seascapes and people. I'll share techniques about watercolor painting, along with suggestions on using graphite pencil, ink, pastel or color pencil.

You are also welcome to explore your own subjects!

You may also choose to work in watercolor only, and maybe add some graphite pencil or other mediums. I'll provide a complete list of paper, drawing tools and watercolor supplies to bring with you. If you are starting from scratch, You may purchase a set of watercolor supplies at the Richeson gallery. You may also bring (or purchase) pastels, pencils, color pencils, ink drawing pens, extra brushes and paper of your choosing to explore and play with.

Classes will run from 9:30 AM until 4 PM. We will break for lunch at noon. Please come about 15 minutes early to set up your area. On Wednesday afternoon, we will wind down with an informal show-and-tell about our work.

Create Landscapes, Water, Beaches and Skies in Watercolor and Pencil

Place: The Clearing Folk School, Ellison Bay, Wisconsin

Dates: Sunday, October 15 to Saturday, October 21

Treat yourself to a week of making drawings and paintings in pencil and watercolor. We’ll work with ideas you bring along, and with the natural beauty around us at The Clearing. You’ll have your own table space in the Schoolhouse studio on which to spread out your supplies and to work at your own pace. We’ll also spend some time sketching the dramatic landscape at The Clearing, especially during sunny weather.

And we’ll take relaxing breaks to enjoy time together and share the work we are doing.

Beginners are welcome, as well as those who want to enrich their work with new techniques. Each morning, Lee will demonstrate different techniques in capturing cloud patterns, sunlight-on-water, and other natural forms.  He will share what he has learned from 30 years of watercolor painting, particularly landscape, beaches, water and skies. He’ll also share his many tricks of rendering nature in pencil.

You are also welcome to explore your own subjects.

You may choose to work in graphite pencil, in watercolor, or combine the two! Lee will provide a complete list of paper, drawing tools and watercolor supplies to bring with you. You may also bring pastels, pastel pencils, color drawing pencils or ink drawing pens of your choosing to explore and play with.
