New Island -- After many years of mulling it over and playing around, I've developed it -- and continue to develop it -- into a real imaginary place called New Island.

2006 & 2007 Green Bay Marathon Posters

Watercolor, 30" x 22"

How do you draw a marathon race?  I worked closely with the promoters, using their photos of runners from previous races, and many area pictures of Green Bay, Wisconsin.  The race follows the Fox River and then passes through Lambeau Field (home of the Green Bay Packers) to the finish line at the War Memorial -- all these things were incorporated in an imaginary overview.

A New Day
(The Restored Ballona Wetlands)

Watercolor, 2000, 26" x 40"

The Ballona Wetlands is located between the communities of Playa del Rey and Marina del Ray in Los Angeles County.  The land, once owned by Howard Hughes, is threatened by development.  I was asked to create a painting for their fundraising effort.  For more information, visit The Ballona Wetlands Land Trust.

Our Natural Coast -- Then and Now
(Orange County, California, around 1700)

Watercolor, 2001, 26" x 40"

Orange County, California, where I grew up, probably once looked like the scene above.  I worked from maps and old aerial photos to reconstruct this view.  Now, the area is completely urbanized.  Military port facilities, private marinas, and endless suburbs cover this entire view except a small area of the wetlands in the center of this painting.  The Friends of the Seal Beach Wildlife Refuge asked me to do the painting to benefit their fundraising efforts.
